The Model 62A is a pump-action rimfire with an exposed hammer and a top-ejecting design. It is chambered for .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle and feeds from an under-barrel tubular magazine with a reported capacity up to 12+1. The 23 inch steel barrel provides classic rimfire balance and sight radius.
Construction is blued steel throughout with a straight-grip walnut buttstock and a grooved slide handle. A checkered steel buttplate with the Winchester Repeating Arms logo caps the stock, and the length of pull measures 13.0 inches.
Factory iron sights include a front blade and a rear open leaf with a step elevator for elevation adjustment. The takedown design allows the rifle to separate at the receiver for convenient storage and transport.
Markings include MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S. OF AMERICA and WINCHESTER — TRADE MARK — MODEL 62A — 22 S L OR L R. Matching serial number locations were observed on the lower tang and the underside/front of the receiver, and this example is noted as late-run production near the end of the 1958 manufacturing period.
