The XTR trim adds refined touches to this Model 70, including a polished blued finish and a high-gloss walnut stock with cut checkering. Practical stock details include a cross-bolt reinforcement, sling swivel studs, a pistol-grip cap, a ventilated recoil pad with a white-line spacer, and cut point-pattern checkering on the grip.
The bolt action uses a push-feed bolt face with a plunger ejector and a small extractor. The bolt body is jeweled (engine-turned) and wears a knurled knob for positive control. The three-position wing safety on the bolt shroud is marked "FIRE" and provides the familiar Model 70 manipulation and lockwork. Feeding is from a hinged floorplate/internal box magazine with a release located inside the trigger guard bow, and capacity is 3+1.
The 24-inch steel barrel is marked "Winchester Proof Steel" and "Made in New Haven, Conn. U.S.A." Sighting equipment consists of a ramped front sight base with a hood slot and a barrel-mounted adjustable folding rear leaf, giving a clear, traditional sight picture.
The polished blued steel receiver is drilled and tapped and currently fitted with two-piece scope bases bearing a circled 'R' mark. A G-prefix on the receiver ring and the New Haven rollmarks align this rifle with the XTR series era. The 13.5-inch length of pull and full-size configuration provide a solid fit, and the included quick-detach swivels and leather sling are ready for carry.
