The XD-40 Tactical is the long-slide, full-size .40 S&W model in the original XD series, pairing a 5-inch barrel with a non-captive recoil system used on Tactical variants. This configuration provides the extended sight radius of the longer slide and the handling characteristics associated with the Tactical lineup.
The barrel is forged steel, hammer-forged, and Melonite-treated. This combination is designed for durability and corrosion resistance while maintaining precise rifling. The bore is clean with sharp lands and grooves.
Controls and safety features include an ambidextrous magazine release, grip safety, trigger safety, and a firing pin block. Visual and tactile feedback are provided by both a loaded chamber indicator and a striker status indicator. The slide has front and rear cocking serrations, and the fixed 3-dot iron sights use a white-dot front and two-dot rear.
