The Official Police is built on Colt's classic E-frame, featuring a six-shot fluted cylinder and a double-action/single-action mechanism. The revolver uses a carbon-steel frame and cylinder with a blued finish, paired with a 5-inch steel barrel for dependable service configuration.
Its sighting system consists of fixed iron sights: a ramped, serrated front blade and a square-notch rear sight integral to the topstrap. The finely serrated topstrap helps reduce glare. An unshrouded ejector rod with a knurled tip and a star-pattern extractor support straightforward operation.
Markings include the Colt "prancing pony" logo on the left side of the frame and the barrel-left rollmark "OFFICIAL POLICE .38 SPECIAL CTG." The serial number is stamped on the crane/yoke and is visible with the cylinder open. This example was manufactured in 1950 in the United States during the post-war era.
Controls and handling features include a smooth-faced trigger and a wide, checkered hammer spur. The aftermarket Pachmayr Presentation wraparound rubber grips provide a full, one-piece grasp on the frame.
