Colt M1911A1 U.S. Army .45 ACP, 1944 WWII Production, Bright Plated Refinish, MMC Adjustable Sights, 5-Inch Barrel, 2 Magazines
This 1944 Colt M1911A1 U.S. Army is a WWII-era, U.S.-property-marked pistol that has been refinished in a bright plated finish and upgraded with MMC adjustable sights. It retains hallmark wartime markings, including the "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY" slide legend, Rampant Colt, Hartford address, and "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" on the frame, with wartime proofs present. The bore is excellent, adding practical appeal to a historically significant, customized example.
The slide carries the "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY" marking alongside Colt patent-date rollmarks, the Rampant Colt, and Hartford address. The frame is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY." Wartime inspection and proof marks include a G.H.D inspector marking and a "P" proof.
This full-size 1911 uses the Browning short-recoil, locked-breech, swinging-link system with a 5-inch barrel and GI-pattern 7+1 capacity. It features the A1 frame cuts behind the trigger and an arched mainspring housing, vertical rear slide serrations, and a GI-style ejection port. Controls include a thumb safety and grip safety, paired with a short, serrated trigger and a wide-spur, checkered hammer.
The pistol was refinished with a bright plated appearance across the slide, frame, and small parts. Sighting is enhanced by an MMC adjustable rear sight and a dovetailed front blade with a red insert for a crisp sight picture.
Grips are smooth hardwood panels complemented by a Pachmayr front-strap rubber grip adapter for added purchase while maintaining a period-correct profile elsewhere.
Condition
Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Excellent - Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.
Bore Rifling: Excellent Rifling - Sharp lands and grooves.
Specific Condition Notes: This pistol has been refinished with a bright plated finish across the slide, frame, and small parts. The "G.H.D." marking is etched; the "H" appears slightly irregular compared with typical machined characters. Wear, scratches, and small blemishes are present across the surfaces, with finish loss in high-contact areas. Overall, it is a refinished, well-used example in functional condition.
