The SMG-45 uses LWRC's proprietary short-recoil delayed blowback operating system in a closed-bolt, semi-automatic format, delivering smooth cycling with .45 ACP. The lower features fully ambidextrous controls, including an ambidextrous magazine release and ambidextrous safety selector for versatile handling.
Its 8.5 inch cold hammer-forged chromoly steel barrel is threaded .578x28 with a 1:16 RH twist. The barrel and action are paired with a left-side, folding, non-reciprocating, and reversible charging handle for efficient manipulation while keeping the shooter's support hand clear.
The pistol includes a side-folding brace with polymer/metal construction and an LWRCI textured pistol grip. A modular slotted handguard with rail-cover panels and a hand stop provides a secure support-hand index and accessory mounting options.
A full-length T-marked Picatinny top rail integrates flip-up front and rear iron sights. The platform feeds from U.S.-made UMP-pattern polymer magazines, and this example includes two 25-round magazines for a 25+1 capacity.
Construction centers on an aluminum receiver/frame finished in matte black for durability and a clean profile. Notable markings include "MADE IN THE U.S.A.", "CAMBRIDGE, MD U.S.A.", and "MULTI-CAL."
