This Model 642-2 is a Centennial configuration with a fully enclosed hammer and double-action-only operation. The enclosed design supports snag-free draws while preserving the familiar J-frame profile. The trigger is DAO only, consistent with the 642-2’s purpose-built carry role.
The frame is aluminum alloy with a matte silver finish, while the 1.875 in barrel and 5-shot fluted cylinder are stainless steel with a matte stainless finish. The ejector rod is knurled, and the revolver is rated for .38 Special +P ammunition.
Sights are fixed and low profile, combining a serrated ramp front with an integral rear gutter notch for a simple, durable sight picture. An internal key lock is positioned above the cylinder latch.
Factory Hogue Monogrip rubber stocks with finger grooves provide a secure hold on the micro-size J-frame. Markings include the S&W TRADE MARK crest, SPFLD, MA S&W U.S.A., and the Airweight script, with laser-etched S&W crests on both sides.
