The M&P12 uses a bullpup layout to keep overall length to approximately 27.8 inches while retaining a 19.5-inch barrel. Dual side-by-side magazine tubes with a push-button selector provide 14+1 capacity with 2.75-inch shells and 12+1 with 3-inch shells, and it also accepts mini-shells. The action is pump-operated with bottom ejection and loading.
Built for durability, the barrel is 4140 CMV steel and threaded for interchangeable chokes in the Rem-Choke (Remington) pattern. A cylinder choke is installed and a modified choke is included. The receiver is 410 stainless steel with a matte black finish, and the chamber is 3 inches. The case label indicates “Barrel 19.5.”
Ergonomics include an ambidextrous AR-style lever safety and an M&P-pattern textured pistol grip with interchangeable palm swells. The stock is synthetic with a rubber buttpad and QD sling sockets, and the length of pull is 14.5 inches.
A full-length Picatinny top rail and an elongated ventilated aluminum handguard with M-LOK slots provide mounting real estate. Factory polymer flip-up sights are installed.
