The HK45 V1 combines DA/SA operation with a manual safety and decocker, giving the shooter flexible carry and manipulation options. Ambidextrous slide-release levers and a paddle-style ambidextrous magazine release support efficient use from either hand.
Its 4.46-inch cold-hammer-forged polygonal barrel features an O-ring lockup, with six-groove, right-hand twist rifling as specified. The barrel and slide are built for service longevity, while the Hostile Environment nitrocarburized slide finish provides a tough, corrosion-resistant surface.
The polymer frame uses interchangeable backstraps to fit the hand, with textured polymer grips and finger grooves for consistent control. Front and rear slide serrations aid manipulation. Sighting is straightforward with fixed contrast sights: a single white-dot front blade and a square-notch rear.
An integral MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny accessory rail with four slots is molded into the dust cover. Capacity is 10+1, and this example includes four HK factory 10-round steel magazines. The factory case label identifies the model as HK45-V1 to match the pistol.
Originating from development work tied to the U.S. Joint Combat Pistol program and input from Larry Vickers and Ken Hackathorn, the HK45 platform is known for endurance, including a documented 50,000-round test. This U.S.-made example is marked "Heckler & Koch Inc., Columbus GA, Made in USA."
