The XLR series configuration features stainless-steel construction throughout, including a matte/brushed stainless receiver and a 24 inch round stainless barrel. The barrel uses Ballard-style rifling with a 1:20 twist, paired to a capacity of 4+1 via a nearly full-length tubular magazine.
The gray/black laminated hardwood stock includes a pistol-grip profile, checkering for control, and a rubber recoil pad. Length of pull is 13.5 inches, and the buttstock carries the traditional Marlin bullseye. Sling swivel studs are installed front and rear.
Sighting equipment consists of a ramp front sight and an adjustable folding semi-buckhorn rear sight. The receiver is drilled and tapped, and a scope rail is installed. Side ejection and a cross-bolt safety support straightforward operation with this lever-action design.
Markings include the North Haven, Connecticut rollmark and the JM barrel proof. This example was manufactured in 2009 in the USA. The front sight hood is not present in the photos.
