The CZ 550 American uses a Mauser-style, controlled-round-feed action with a full-length claw extractor for reliable feeding and positive extraction. A two-position safety and a fixed internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate provide a traditional hunting-rifle setup with a 3-round capacity.
The 24-inch carbon steel barrel is hammer-forged with a sporter profile, paired with a blued carbon steel receiver. The square-bridge receiver has integral 19 mm dovetail scope bases front and rear. The muzzle is unthreaded, and there are no open sights.
The walnut stock follows the American classic profile with a straight comb and a right-hand shadowline cheekpiece. Cut checkering and a CZ rubber recoil pad round out the handling features. Length of pull measures 14.5 inches, and sling swivel studs are installed front and rear.
Markings include "MADE IN CZECH REPUBLIC" and "CZ-USA, KANSAS CITY, KS." Country of origin is the Czech Republic, and this example includes the factory test target dated 09-09-2009 that matches the rifle’s serial number. The CZ 550 American model line was later discontinued.
