The EXP556 uses a semi-automatic, direct impingement system with a bufferless internal recoil assembly and a rear polymer endcap. This design removes the need for a receiver extension or buffer tube, creating a streamlined pistol configuration.
The 8.5 in barrel is paired with a proprietary multi-port muzzle brake to help manage recoil and muzzle movement. An adjustable gas block allows tuning for different ammunition and operating conditions.
Lightweight polymer upper and lower receivers, along with a polymer ribbed handguard, contribute to an overall reported weight of about 2.98 lb. The handguard includes a bottom Picatinny rail, and the receiver features a continuous 1913 Picatinny top rail. No sights are included.
User-oriented features include a left-side reciprocating charging handle and a 2-position safety selector. The pistol accepts standard AR-15/STANAG magazines and is equipped with an MFT EPG16 pistol grip. It is finished in black and made in the USA.
