The Type 56 configuration here follows the standard SKS pattern: a 20.5 inch barrel, fixed internal 10-round box magazine with hinged floorplate, stripper-clip loading, and an automatic last-round bolt hold-open. It is chambered in 7.62x39 and operates via a semi-automatic short-stroke gas piston with a tilting-bolt locking system.
Metal parts are blued with the bolt and bolt carrier left in-the-white, paired with a hardwood stock. The stock includes a side-mounted rear sling swivel, and the wooden upper handguard features three elongated ventilation slots per side. Length of pull measures 12.5 inches.
Sighting is via a hooded front post and a tangent rear leaf graduated to 1000 m. Markings include the triangular arsenal stamp on the left side of the receiver, the Chinese "五六式" Type 56 designation, and the "SKS 7.62x39 MADE IN CHINA BY NORINCO C.A.I. ST ALB VT" import stamp on the right side.
The bayonet is not installed. The included green canvas sling and the under-barrel cleaning rod are both installed.
Component markings note matching last-five serial numbers on the stock, bolt/bolt carrier, and trigger guard, with a mismatched magazine floorplate.
