The Model 4006 pairs a stainless steel frame and slide with a 4 inch barrel for a durable, full-size .40 S&W platform. It uses a recoil-operated, locked-breech Browning-type tilting barrel system and feeds from double-column steel magazines for an 11+1 capacity.
Controls are set up for service use: DA/SA trigger with a spurred hammer, left-side magazine release, and a left-side slide stop/takedown lever. Safety features include ambidextrous slide-mounted safety/decocker levers and a firing pin block.
Sight picture comes from fixed, low-mount 3-dot sights with a single white-dot front and two-dot rear. The slide has rear cocking serrations only. The frame adds practical traction with a checkered frontstrap and checkering on the front of the trigger guard, and there is a slight bevel to the magazine well to assist reloads.
This is a non-TSW Third Generation variant made in the United States, with factory markings "MOD 4006" on the frame and "SMITH & WESSON - SPRINGFIELD, MA U.S.A." on the slide. It wears a one-piece wraparound textured black synthetic grip with S&W medallion.
