Made in Russia by Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (Izhmekh), this IJ-70-18A is the Baikal-marketed export variant of the Makarov-pattern pistol. The "18" suffix denotes its 9x18mm Makarov chambering, while the "A" suffix identifies the adjustable rear-sight configuration. It was imported by KBI, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with 1994 manufacture noted.
The pistol is a compact, all-steel, straight-blowback design with a fixed barrel. It uses a DA/SA trigger system with a slide-mounted safety/decocker and a heel-type magazine release. An exposed spur hammer, anti-glare serrated slide rib, and a lanyard ring are part of the original configuration.
Sights consist of a fixed front blade paired with a tall adjustable rear sight for the "A" variant. Capacity is 8+1 with the included single-column steel magazines. The blued slide and frame are complemented by one-piece checkered black polymer grips with star medallions.
Importer and export markings include "ИЖ-70 Cal. 9mm Makarov," "BAIKAL IJ-70," "KBI, INC HBG, PA," and "MADE IN RUSSIA." This example retains a cohesive 1990s export package with the factory box, period Russian leather flap holster stamped OTK 1993, tools, and multilingual manual with acceptance certificate.
