The AUG/A3 M1 uses a bullpup layout with a semi-automatic, short-stroke gas piston system and a rotating bolt. This example is configured for right-hand ejection and is convertible to left-hand ejection with appropriate parts. It features the proprietary Steyr AUG magazine well.
The chrome-lined steel barrel is a quick-change unit operated by the AUG release lever. A factory-installed multi-port brake is fitted to the threaded muzzle. A two-position gas regulator supports reliable operation across conditions.
Mounting space is provided by a long top Picatinny rail. An additional right-side accessory rail segment is present for user-configurable setup.
Controls and handling features include a left-side folding, non-reciprocating charging handle with a hold-open notch and the classic AUG folding vertical foregrip. Sling attachment points include a sling ring at the gas block and a rear sling loop.
