The XD Mod.2 Sub-Compact configuration pairs a 3" barrel with durable construction and compact dimensions. The barrel is melonite-treated, and the slide is finished in black for a clean, duty-style appearance set against the FDE polymer frame.
Controls and handling features are well thought out. The ambidextrous magazine release supports either hand, and the Grip Zone texturing provides secure purchase. Capacity is flexible with the included magazines: 13 rounds for a compact profile, or 16 rounds with the grip-sleeve extension.
Sight acquisition is fast and clear thanks to the red fiber-optic front and a low-profile, dovetailed rear sight. Safety and status checks are intuitive with a grip safety, trigger safety, loaded chamber indicator, and striker status indicator.
The pistol uses a dual captive recoil spring with a full-length guide rod to manage cycling. A single-slot Picatinny-style accessory rail is integrated up front. Factory markings include the Springfield Armory crest rollmark, plus "XD-9 SUB-COMPACT Mod.2" and "Springfield Armory U.S.A." on the slide.
