Product Description

Winchester Model 42 .410 Bore Pump-Action Takedown Shotgun, 26 Inch Plain Barrel, Fixed Full Choke, 3 Inch Chamber (1940)

This pre-WWII Winchester Model 42 was manufactured in 1940 and configured as a takedown .410 Bore with a 26 inch plain steel barrel, fixed FULL choke, and a 3 inch chamber. It features matching serial numbers on the receiver and barrel extension, Winchester Proof Steel barrel markings with patent numbers 1,912,403 and 1,969,255, and Winchester oval proof marks on the barrel and receiver. The shotgun retains its classic right-side ejection, 2+1 capacity with 3 inch shells, and walnut furniture, and it has been customized with an aftermarket red/orange rubber recoil pad and thin black spacer for a 13.5 inch length of pull.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Good - Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.

Specific Condition Notes: There is rust around the receiver. The receiver shows deep pitting from previously removed rust. There are a few deep scratches on the receiver, along with areas of finish loss.

    What’s Included

    • Winchester Model 42 .410 Bore pump-action shotgun (takedown configuration)

This Model 42 combines the desirable pre-war production date with a practical .410 Bore setup. The 26 inch plain barrel is marked Winchester Proof Steel and carries a fixed FULL choke with a single front bead, delivering a simple, purpose-built field configuration.

Factory markings include Winchester oval proof marks on the barrel and receiver, and the barrel legend lists patent numbers 1,912,403 and 1,969,255. The receiver and barrel extension have matching serial numbers, and the shell carrier bears the distinctive "W" mark.

The action is the classic Winchester pump with right-side ejection and a 2+1 capacity when using 3 inch shells. The takedown design makes transport and maintenance straightforward.

Construction is all steel with a blued finish, paired with figured walnut furniture. It has a pistol-grip stock and the traditional grooved corncob walnut fore-end for a secure, period-correct grasp.

This example has been customized with an aftermarket solid red/orange rubber recoil pad and a thin black spacer. The length of pull is set at 13.5 inches.
