The Second Model (New Frame) configuration is identifiable by its top-break action with the latch integrated into the rear-sight base, paired with an automatic star-ejector for fast, positive extraction. This setup is a hallmark of the Sportsman line and contributes to its reputation as a practical target and field revolver.
A 6-inch carbon steel barrel with a solid rib provides a stable sighting plane. The adjustable iron sights are set up for precision, with a front blade adjustable for elevation and a rear unit adjustable for windage, allowing the shooter to dial in point of impact with common .22 LR loads.
The revolver is built on an all-steel frame with a blued finish, a blued carbon steel cylinder, and a finger-rest style trigger guard. The exposed hammer has a checkered spur for confident thumb-cocking in single-action use.
Two-piece checkered walnut grips with H&R medallions add a classic look and secure purchase. Barrel markings include H.&R. "SPORTSMAN" DOUBLE ACTION on the left and HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO., WORCESTER, MASS., U.S.A. on the right, reinforcing its U.S. manufacture and Sportsman series lineage.
