The M&P 5.7 uses Smith & Wesson’s TEMPO system: a gas-operated, locked-breech, two-piece barrel that delays unlocking until the bullet passes the gas port. The result is a 5 in stainless steel barrel with an Armornite finish and a factory-threaded muzzle for 1/2x28 devices.
This model features internal-hammer single-action fire control within the M&P polymer line, paired with a flat-face trigger and a trigger safety. Capacity is 22+1 with the included 22-round magazines, aligning with the pistol’s full-size profile.
The slide is Armornite finished in black and includes forward serrations, an optics cut, and longitudinal top lightening windows. Sights are drift-adjustable, with a dovetailed white-dot front and a plain-notch rear, and a sight radius of 7.125 in.
User-friendly controls include ambidextrous slide-stop levers and a reversible magazine release. The polymer frame is black with an accessory rail that has four slots. The slide bears the factory warning marking: “CAUTION CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED.”
