Product Description

    Winchester Model 70 Pre-64 Standard Rifle, .270 Win, 24-inch Barrel, 1949 Production, Controlled-Round-Feed

This 1949 Winchester Model 70 Pre-64 Standard Rifle in .270 Win pairs the classic controlled-round-feed action with a 24-inch sporter barrel and a walnut stock. It is set up with a micrometer receiver aperture sight and includes a one-piece scope base marked with a circled "R" and split rings. Clear rollmarks and a checkered steel "widow's peak" buttplate round out a configuration many enthusiasts look for in an early post-war New Haven rifle.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Good - Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.

Bore Rifling: Good Rifling - Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: Widespread pitting and finish loss are present throughout the exterior metal surfaces. The bore is bright and clean.

    What's Included

    • Micrometer receiver aperture rear sight (installed)
    • One-piece scope base with circled "R" marking (installed)
    • Unbranded split scope rings

Built on the pre-64 controlled-round-feed action, this Model 70 features a full-length non-rotating claw extractor and dual front locking lugs. Feeding is from an internal box magazine with a steel hinged floorplate, preserving the rifle’s clean lines and reliable operation.

The rifle is chambered in .270 Win (marked 270 W.C.F.) and uses a 24-inch steel sporter-contour barrel. Sighting equipment includes a ramped front sight with a dovetailed blade and a micrometer-style receiver aperture sight for precise elevation and windage adjustments.

The receiver top is drilled and tapped and currently carries a one-piece scope base with a circled "R" stamp, paired with split rings. This provides an immediate path to glass if the buyer chooses to mount an optic.

The walnut stock has a straight comb and checkering for secure handling. A checkered steel "widow's peak" buttplate is fitted, and the length of pull measures 13.5 inches. A front sling-swivel escutcheon is present.

Factory rollmarks include "MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S. OF AMERICA," "WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL," "WINCHESTER MODEL 70 270 W.C.F.," and the "WINCHESTER TRADE MARK," confirming its post-war New Haven manufacture and correct proof steel barrel.
