Produced in 1910, this Winchester Model 1897 Takedown is a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun configured with trench-gun-style hardware, including a perforated steel heat shield and a bayonet-lug/adapter with front sling swivel. It features matching serial numbers on the receiver and barrel assembly, Winchester WP proofs on both barrel and receiver, and a 20 inch barrel marked FULL. The action is slam-fire capable with an exposed hammer, and the gun retains the classic takedown system with a barrel/magazine locking sleeve.

    What's Included

    • Winchester Model 1897 Takedown 12 Gauge pump-action shotgun
    • Installed perforated steel heat shield
    • Installed bayonet-lug/adapter with front sling swivel

This Model 1897 is the Takedown variant, using Winchester’s barrel and magazine locking sleeve to separate the assembly from the receiver for transport or maintenance. The receiver and barrel assembly carry matching serial numbers, adding desirable continuity to this 1910-production shotgun.

Trench-gun-style hardware has been fitted, including a perforated steel heat shield and a bayonet-lug/adapter with a front sling swivel. Factory martial markings (U.S./flaming bomb) are not observed, making the configuration notable as a custom setup rather than a marked martial example.

The 20 inch barrel is marked FULL, an uncommon pairing with this length and configuration. Sighting is via a brass bead front with no rear sight. Ejection is from the right-side port, and the tubular magazine holds 6+1 rounds.

Furniture consists of a straight-grip, uncheckered walnut stock with a 14.0 inch length of pull, paired with a ribbed walnut slide handle. Winchester WP proofs are present on both the barrel and receiver.

The pump-action mechanism is slam-fire capable and uses an exposed hammer, staying true to the Model 1897’s well-known manual of arms. This example was made in the United States and retains the core mechanical features associated with early 20th-century production.
