Built in the 1969–1970 era, this first-generation Model 39 no-dash combines a 4-inch 9mm barrel with a DA/SA, short-recoil, locked-breech action and a slim single-stack 7+1 capacity. The right side of the slide is marked "PAT'S PENDING," a detail associated with this period.
The pistol pairs a blued carbon-steel slide with a black-anodized aluminum-alloy frame, delivering a full-size profile with reduced weight. A separate barrel bushing, spurred hammer with lightening hole, and a slide-mounted safety/decocker are key features of this configuration. The magazine release is a left-side button for straightforward operation.
Sight equipment includes an adjustable rear sight and a ramped, serrated front sight. The slide has rear vertical serrations for purchase, a matte anti-glare top rib, and an external ejection port, rounding out a practical, period-correct feature set.
Walnut checkered grips with silver S&W medallions complement the classic finish. Markings include "MADE IN U.S.A. MARCAS REGISTRADAS SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS." and the S&W trade-mark logo. Provenance is supported by the factory blue two-piece box with an end label that matches the pistol.
