Product Description

Winchester Model 97 Trench Gun, U.S. Ordnance Marked, 12 Gauge, 20 in CYL Barrel, 1949, Takedown

This Winchester Model 97 Trench Gun is a U.S. ordnance-marked example from 1949 with the E-frame prefix, built in the classic military trench-gun configuration. It features a 20 in cylinder-bore barrel, a perforated steel heat shield with bayonet lug, and a takedown receiver. Designed by John M. Browning and chambered for 2 3/4 in shells, it retains hallmark trench-gun elements and marked U.S.

    service proofs.

Bore Condition: Fair - Generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion. Smoothbore cylinder; no rifling present.

Specific Condition Notes: The stock is missing a piece next to the trigger. There is rust and pitting throughout. The perforated steel heat shield is loose.

    What's Included

    • Canvas web sling with metal hardware (installed)

The U.S. ordnance and flaming-bomb stamps on the receiver identify this Model 97 as a U.S.-marked trench configuration. Its 1949 production with the E-frame prefix places it within the later run of WWII-pattern trench guns. The takedown receiver aids transport and maintenance while preserving the correct military pattern layout.

The 20 in steel barrel is rollmarked 'MODEL 97 - WINCHESTER - 12 GA. - 2 3/4 CHAM. - CYL.' and pairs with an under-barrel tubular magazine for a 5+1 capacity. Operation is pump-action with right-side ejection and an exposed hammer, preserving the characteristic handling of the Model 97.

Trench-gun furniture details include the perforated steel heat shield with bayonet lug and a front bead set on the bayonet-adapter band. The grooved corncob walnut fore-end and walnut stock with a left-side rear sling swivel match the pattern, with a measured length of pull of 13.5 in.
