This Model 637-2 is a J-frame round-butt, 5-shot revolver with a fluted stainless steel cylinder and a steel barrel featuring a short underlug. The frame is aluminum alloy with a matte silver finish, keeping weight down while maintaining strength where it counts.
It is chambered in .38 Special and rated for +P ammunition. The action is double-action/single-action with an exposed, checkered-spur hammer and a smooth, combat-style trigger, giving shooters the option of either DA or precise SA operation.
Sighting is straightforward and durable, with a serrated ramp front sight and an integral rear notch machined into the topstrap. The revolver uses the standard left-side thumb latch, and the ejector rod has a knurled tip for positive operation.
Factory safety features include an internal keyed lock and a hammer block. Markings include the S&W Trade Mark crest, "SPFLD, MA S&W U.S.A.," and "Airweight." The model is marked "637-2" on the yoke cut, and the internal lock aperture is on the left side of the frame.
