This original-series (Gen 1) M&P 40 Shield, SKU 180020, is the manual thumb safety variant of S&W's single-stack .40 S&W. It pairs a stainless slide and 3.1-inch stainless barrel with a black Melonite/Armornite finish, steel low-profile 3-dot sights, and the M&P sear-deactivation system for disassembly without pulling the trigger. Slim at 0.95 inches wide and 19.0 ounces unloaded, it includes both 6- and 7-round factory magazines.

This Gen 1 M&P 40 Shield features a stainless slide and barrel treated with a black Melonite/Armornite finish for durability and corrosion resistance. Rear wave-pattern slide serrations provide a secure grasp for manipulation. The pistol is marked "capable of firing with magazine removed," indicating no magazine disconnect.
Steel, low-profile 3-dot sights are dovetailed front and rear, with a white-dot front and a matching two-dot rear. The 5.3-inch sight radius supports confident alignment while maintaining a compact overall length of 6.1 inches and height of 4.6 inches.
The striker-fired action includes a manual thumb safety and a trigger safety with a hinged trigger design. S&W's M&P sear-deactivation system allows disassembly without pulling the trigger, adding a user-friendly maintenance feature.
Capacity is 7+1 with the included magazines: a 7-round extended and a 6-round flush-fit, both factory Smith & Wesson single-stack stainless steel.
