The XTR grade elevates this Model 70 with a high-polish blued finish and upgraded gloss walnut stock. The stock showcases a Monte Carlo comb with cheekpiece, cut checkering, a black forend tip with white line spacer, and a black buttplate with a matching white line spacer. Sling swivel studs are fitted from the factory.
Built in New Haven, Connecticut in 1979 (G-prefix), this rifle uses a 22 inch steel barrel rollmarked "Winchester Proof Steel" and is equipped with a ramped front sight and an adjustable open rear sight. The receiver is drilled and tapped and currently wears two-piece scope bases with unbranded rings installed.
The jeweled (engine-turned) bolt and the Model 70’s three-position wing safety provide smooth operation and secure handling. A hinged floorplate/trigger guard assembly accesses the internal box magazine, which holds 5 rounds plus 1 in the chamber.
Chambered in .30-06, this rifle offers a versatile big-game cartridge in a classic American bolt action. Length of pull measures 13.5 inches, and the factory fit and finish reflect the XTR series’ upgraded trim and attention to detail.
