The MPX uses a semi-automatic, short-stroke gas-piston system with a closed bolt and a rotating multi-lug bolt, purpose-built for the 9mm Luger platform. This configuration delivers the MPX’s distinct operating design in a carbine-length package with a 16-inch barrel.
It is an early MPX carbine setup featuring a free-float aluminum KeyMod handguard and an integral full-length 12 o’clock Picatinny rail that runs across the receiver and handguard. The aluminum receiver wears a matte black finish and is marked "SIG SAUER INC., EXETER–NH–USA," with U.S. manufacture.
The barrel is threaded and fitted with a barrel device that is pinned and welded. This rifle also retains the proprietary SIG MPX magazine interface and ships with two 30-round polymer-body magazines for a 30+1 capacity.
Furniture and controls include a telescoping, skeletonized stock with a polymer buttplate that has been permanently fixed, an ambidextrous safety selector, and a magazine release fitted with a bullet-button style lock plate for compliant states. Length of pull measures 12.25 inches.
