Built on the stainless K-frame, this Model 66-1 carries a short 2.5-inch heavy barrel with an integral ejector-rod shroud and a serrated rib. The topstrap is matte and serrated for glare reduction, while the sides show brushed flats for a clean, classic stainless presentation.
Sighting equipment includes a pinned red-ramp front sight and a micrometer-adjustable rear sight with a black blade. The double-action/single-action system uses an exposed hammer with a checkered spur, complemented by a serrated cylinder-release latch and a knurled ejector-rod tip for confident manipulation.
The six-shot, fluted cylinder is recessed, and the barrel is pinned. As a -1 engineering change, this variant incorporates the gas ring relocated to the cylinder. Markings include the S&W Trade Mark logo on the left side, “MADE IN U.S.A. MARCAS REGISTRADAS SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS.”, “SMITH & WESSON” on the left side of the barrel, “S&W .357 MAGNUM” on the right, and “MOD. 66-1” on the yoke cut.
The yoke and frame carry matching assembly numbers.
Aftermarket laminated hardwood finger-groove combat-style stocks are installed. These one-screw stocks are smooth and do not carry S&W medallions, providing a distinctive custom look and hand-filling feel.
