The M&P15-22 follows the AR-15 pattern with familiar controls, including a rear AR-style T-handle, right-side magazine release, and a two-position manual safety. It has a functioning bolt catch with last-round hold-open, making operation and manual-of-arms consistent with centerfire AR platforms.
This rifle uses polymer upper and lower receivers with steel inserts for critical wear points and durability. The finish is matte black throughout. The action is simple blowback, tuned for .22 LR.
The 16.5-inch steel barrel is threaded and fitted with an A2-style flash hider. A continuous Picatinny top rail bridges the receiver and handguard, and the original polymer quad-rail handguard provides four mounting surfaces for accessories.
Furniture includes a 6-position, M4-style collapsible stock and an A2-style polymer pistol grip. Length of pull is 12.5 inches. The rifle is marked Made in U.S.A., Springfield, MA, and ships with a 25-round factory magazine for a 25+1 capacity.
