The Model 5906 is a Third-Generation S&W design built on an all-stainless steel frame and slide with a matte bead-blast finish. Produced during the 1989–1999 era and widely used by U.S. law-enforcement, it represents the mature evolution of the 59-series double-stack 9mm platform. Approximate factory references place overall length at about 7.5 inches and weight around 38.3 ounces, with a 4-inch barrel.
The pistol runs a DA/SA, hammer-fired system with an exposed spurred hammer. Controls include an ambidextrous, slide-mounted safety/decocker and a left-side magazine release. The slide has rear serrations for positive manipulation, and the design incorporates a magazine disconnect safety.
Ergonomic details include an integral beavertail, a rounded trigger guard, front-strap vertical serrations, and a beveled magazine well mouth. The one-piece, wrap-around textured synthetic grip carries the S&W medallion and provides consistent purchase.
Sights are practical and precise: a ramped white-dot front paired with a windage/elevation adjustable rear. Factory-style markings are present, including the S&W crest and Springfield, MA rollmark on the slide, and a chamber/barrel hood marked "9 MM" over "PARABELLUM."
This pistol is compatible with double-stack S&W 59-series magazines and comes with Mec-Gar magazines: one extended 20-round steel magazine, three 17-round magazines, and one 15-round magazine. Listed capacity is 20+1 with the extended magazine installed.
