The M59/66 uses a semi-automatic, short-stroke gas piston system paired with a fixed 10-round internal magazine that is stripper-clip fed. It is chambered in 7.62x39 and features a 22 in barrel for classic SKS handling and ballistics. The receiver is steel, and the bolt and bolt carrier are finished in the white.
Distinctive Yugoslav military features include an integral 22 mm rifle-grenade launcher spigot, a folding ladder grenade sight, and a gas shutoff valve. The installed underfolding blade bayonet with a fuller is correct to the pattern and locks up as designed.
Sighting equipment consists of open sights with a protected front post and a tangent rear sight. Furniture is hardwood with a rubber buttpad and a vented wood upper handguard. Length of pull measures 12.5 in, maintaining the service-rifle ergonomics of the platform.
