The 16-inch barrel is cold hammer forged from 4140 chrome-moly steel and features a medium contour, black-oxide finish, and a 1:8 RH twist. It uses a carbine-length gas system and a pinned A2-style front sight base that serves as the gas block.
The rifle uses forged 7075-T6 aluminum receivers with a Type III hard-coat anodized finish in black. The flat-top upper provides a Picatinny rail and includes a forward assist and an ejection-port cover. Selector markings are SAFE/FIRE and the model is marked AR-556.
Furniture includes carbine-length, two-piece ribbed polymer handguards with a delta ring, a 6-position M4-style collapsible stock with Ruger logo, and an A2-style pistol grip. Length of pull is 13.5 inches.
Sighting is handled by an A2-style fixed front sight base and a Ruger Rapid Deploy polymer flip-up rear sight. The rifle features a standard charging handle, a manual safety, and a 30+1 capacity in 5.56 NATO.
