This Smith & Wesson Model 4043 is a Third Generation, full-size .40 S&W pistol with a stainless slide, 4 inch barrel, and aluminum-alloy frame. It features a double-action-only system with a spurless hammer and no external manual safety/decocker. The pistol retains its factory markings and fixed low-mount three-dot sights, and it comes with three 11-round magazines. A rubber finger-groove grip sleeve is installed over the factory wraparound grip.

The Model 4043 is a DAO variant with a spurless/bobbed hammer, delivering a consistent trigger pull and a slide fitted with a safety/decocker blanking plate. There is no external manual safety/decocker, in line with its DAO configuration.
This non-TSW configuration has a plain dust cover without an accessory rail. The frame is rollmarked "MOD 4043." The left side of the slide is marked "SMITH & WESSON, SPRINGFIELD, MA U.S.A." with the S&W crest, and the barrel hood is marked ".40 S&W" with the S&W logo.
Construction pairs a stainless slide with an aluminum-alloy full-size frame and a 4 inch barrel. Sights are a fixed low-mount three-dot setup, with a fixed front and dovetailed low-mount rear.
Ergonomics are provided by the factory one-piece wraparound synthetic grip, enhanced here with an installed rubber finger-groove sleeve. Capacity is 11+1, and the pistol includes three steel double-stack magazines.
