The J-22 pairs a fixed 2.5 in steel barrel with a straight-blowback action for a simple, compact design. Its micro size and approximately 5 in overall length make it notably small while still offering a 6+1 capacity in .22 LR.
Controls are straightforward: a striker-fired, single-action-only trigger; a left-side manual safety with clear F/S indicators; and a heel-type magazine catch. Rear slide serrations provide a coarse, vertical gripping surface.
Sighting is via integral, fixed sights with a front blade and square-notch rear. The slide is top-ejecting, an identifying feature of this model that also distinguishes its ejection pattern.
Construction consists of a black zinc-alloy (Zamak) slide and frame with a steel barrel/liner, black checkered synthetic grips, and an overall black finish. Made in the United States, this model was later sold in similar form as the Jimenez JA-22.
