It uses a push-feed bolt with two forward locking lugs and a plunger ejector, and the receiver is drilled and tapped. The barrel is marked Westfield, Massachusetts U.S.A.
The GCNS designation denotes a hardwood stock, detachable box magazine, and no iron sights. The 22-inch sporter-contour barrel ends in a crowned muzzle, and the rifle ships without sights. A tang-mounted, three-position safety provides intuitive control from the shooting grip.
The hardwood stock features cut checkering, a pistol grip with a grip cap bearing the Savage medallion, a rubber recoil pad, and front and rear sling swivel studs. Length of pull is 14.0 inches.
