Built on a stainless-steel L-frame with a round-butt profile, this Performance Center 986 pairs durability with tuned, refined function. The matte bead-blast finish complements the revolver’s purposeful design, and factory Performance Center work includes a tuned action with a bossed mainspring for consistent ignition.
The barrel is approximately 2.5 inches, slab-sided with a full underlug and a recessed crown. A serrated topstrap/rib helps manage glare. Sights are fast and configurable: a dovetailed orange fiber-optic front ramp and a fully adjustable rear sight.
The unfluted, matte gray titanium-alloy cylinder holds seven rounds of 9mm Luger and is cut for moon clips to enable reliable extraction with rimless cartridges. The titanium construction reduces rotational mass for quick, smooth cycling.
Ergonomics are enhanced by VZ G10 grips in a tan/black layered pattern with finger grooves, installed on the round-butt frame for a secure, textured hold. Controls include an exposed, checkered-spur hammer and a smooth DA/SA trigger with an adjustable overtravel stop.
Markings include MADE IN U.S.A. with Smith & Wesson Springfield, Mass., the Performance Center crest on the right side of the frame, Performance Center barrel engraving, and Model 986 designation in the yoke cut. The serial is observed in the yoke cut as well. Country of origin is the United States.
