This Chilean contract Mauser Modelo 1895 Short Rifle was produced by Ludwig Loewe & Co. in Berlin during 1895–1896. It features the Chilean national crest on the receiver ring and the correct left side-rail legend, pairing desirable contract markings with the early small-ring Mauser action. Chambered in 7x57mm with a 22 inch short-rifle barrel, this example has been drilled and tapped on the receiver ring and shows period-correct configuration details that will matter to collectors and Mauser enthusiasts.
Built on the 1893/95-pattern small-ring action, it includes the gas escape port, a straight bolt with round knob polished in-the-white, and the hinged floorplate with front catch typical of the design. The fixed internal box magazine holds four rounds, with a Mauser wing safety at the rear of the bolt.
The full-length military hardwood stock retains its nose cap, one barrel band, and bottom sling swivels. The top handguard and rear sight assembly are absent, and there are no sights installed. The receiver ring has been drilled and tapped with two holes to accept a scope mount, and the safety shroud carries the marking "KNAPPE & VOGT 256 GRAND RAPIDS."
Contract and maker markings are clear, including the Chilean crest and the "MAUSER CHILENO MODELO 1895 MANUFACTURA LOEWE BERLIN" legend on the left receiver rail. The combination of early Ludwig Loewe production, Chilean crest, and short-rifle configuration makes this an appealing antique example of the 7x57mm Mauser pattern.
