Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police, Model of 1905 4th Change (Pre-Model 10), 5-inch, Nickel, DA/SA, 1926
This Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police Model of 1905, 4th Change, dates to 1926 and represents the classic pre-Model 10 K-frame in a desirable 5-inch configuration. It features a six-shot fluted cylinder, fixed sights, checkered walnut service stocks with medallions, and a bright nickel-plated finish (factory origin not confirmed). It is a direct ancestor of the later Model 10 and carries period-correct markings and hardware.
Built on a K-frame round-butt, this full-size revolver is chambered in .38 Special and set up for double-action/single-action use. The 5-inch tapered barrel includes an under-barrel lug with a front lock and a large knurled mushroom ejector-rod head, reflecting the robust service pattern of the era.
Sighting is straightforward and durable, with a fixed half-moon front and a fixed notch in the topstrap. The revolver is equipped with a smooth-face trigger and an exposed hammer with a checkered spur for confident cocking.
Construction is all steel with a nickel-plated frame and cylinder. The checkered walnut service stocks have the diamond around the screw and S&W medallions, and the butt is clean with no lanyard ring. Rollmarks include MADE IN U.S.A. on the frame, .38 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG on the right side of the barrel, and factory address/patent lines on the barrel top.
