1945 Turkish K.Kale Model 1938 Mauser 98 8mm Bolt-Action Rifle, 29.1 in Barrel, AS.FA Ankara Crest
This WWII-era Turkish Mauser was assembled at the ASFA military factory in Ankara in 1945 under the Model 1938 standardization program. It carries the star-and-crescent crest and "AS.FA ANKARA K.KALE 1945" markings and features the long 29.1-inch barrel typical of the Turkish long rifle pattern. Originally produced in Germany for Ottoman service and later refurbished at Kırıkkale, this example shows mixed serial numbers and classic Mauser 98 large-ring action details that appeal to collectors of service rifles.
Condition
Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Fair - Generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion.
Bore Rifling: Fair Rifling - Worn rifling, slight loss of definition.
Specific Condition Notes: The original bluing is largely gone and has shifted to a dark grey or brown patina. There are some areas of surface rust and pitting, particularly along the wood line where moisture was trapped. The walnut stock is very dark from decades of oil and cosmoline absorption, with heavy safe dings, scratches, and occasional small cracks near the recoil lug or buttplate. The bore presents as dark or frosted with worn rifling.
What’s Included
- Kirikkale Arsenal (K Kale) Model 1938 bolt-action rifle in 8mm Mauser
Built on the Mauser 98 large-ring action, this rifle uses the robust external claw extractor and a straight bolt handle with a round knob. It retains the 5-round internal magazine set up for charger (stripper clip) loading, consistent with Turkish service configuration.
The receiver is milled steel, and the stock is hardwood with a straight grip, takedown disk, and a steel buttplate. It includes bottom sling swivels on the butt and front band, along with a separate hardwood upper handguard—features typical of the long-rifle pattern adopted under Turkey’s Model 1938 program.
