The Howdah Hunter Percussion is built around a side-by-side set of 11.25-inch steel smoothbore barrels, chambered in 20 gauge and intended for black powder only. It uses #10 or #11 percussion caps and offers a 2-shot capacity with independent barrels.
Traditional controls include external hammers and double triggers, paired with percussion sidelock actions. A captive steel ramrod with a pivoting retainer is fitted beneath the barrels for convenient loading and maintenance.
The pistol wears a blued and color case-hardened finish, with factory color case-hardened locks and furniture. The satin-finished European walnut stock has checkering, a pistol grip, and wedge escutcheons for a classic presentation. Sighting is straightforward with a brass bead front and no rear sight.
Factory engraving covers the locks and furniture with game scenes and scrollwork: a boar on the left lock, a big cat on the right, and a scalloped buttcap/tang. Gardone Val Trompia proof marks are present, including the star-in-wreath over PN black-powder proof and the Gardone shield crest, underscoring its Italian manufacture and proof status. This is a faithful reproduction, not an antique.
