Product Description

Winchester Model 12 Field Grade 16 Gauge Pump-Action Shotgun, 28 Inch Modified, Takedown, 1941

This 1941 Winchester Model 12 Field Grade stands out as a pre-WWII 16 gauge with its classic takedown system and matching serialized receiver and barrel/takedown extension. It features a 28-inch plain barrel marked Modified, a 2 3/4 inch chamber, and period-correct details such as a matted receiver top used as the sighting plane and a front bead. Known historically in early literature as the Model 1912, this example combines collectible era, correct markings, and practical configuration.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Fair - Generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion.

Specific Condition Notes: There is aged wear, scuffing, minor scratches, and blemishes on the barrel and frame. The walnut stock and corncob slide handle show minor dents and wear and remain in good condition. The bore shows no major wear.

    What's Included

    • Winchester Model 12 Field Grade 16 Gauge pump-action shotgun

Made in 1941, this pre-WWII Field Grade is chambered in 16 gauge with a 2 3/4 inch chamber and a 28-inch plain barrel stamped Modified. The barrel is marked Winchester Proof Steel, and the receiver top is matted to serve as a clean sighting plane behind the front bead.

The takedown system uses a knurled barrel collar and the receiver and barrel/takedown extension carry matching serial numbers. This is the classic Model 12 configuration collectors look for, with right-side ejection and a polished lifter.

Stocked in walnut, the shotgun has an uncheckered pistol-grip buttstock with a 14.0 inch length of pull and a walnut corncob slide handle. The metal wears a blued finish on both receiver and barrel, consistent with original production.

Mechanically, it uses an internal hammer pump action and a trigger without a disconnector, making it slam-fire capable. The tubular magazine holds 6+1. Historically referenced as the Model 1912 in early Winchester literature, this example carries period-correct features and markings that align with its 1941 production.
