Built on the SKS platform, this Type 56 uses a semiautomatic, short-stroke gas piston system with a tilting-bolt locking design. It is chambered in 7.62x39 and features a 20.5 in barrel. The rifle feeds from a fixed 10-round internal magazine with a hinged floorplate and has a listed capacity of 10+1.
Military-correct features include an integral folding spike bayonet with a knurled locking collar that stows under the barrel, a vented wooden handguard with three cooling slots, and a hardwood stock. Sighting is via a hooded-post front and a tangent-leaf rear sight graduated in 100-meter increments.
Markings and provenance are clear: an arsenal triangle stamp is present on the left side of the receiver, and Chinese model designation characters are also present. The right side carries the import mark 'SKS 7.62 MADE IN CHINA CJA SFLD, MI'. A component numbering pattern was observed with some non-matching parts.
The rifle has a steel receiver and barrel with a blued receiver/cover contrasted by a gray parkerized bolt carrier. It is equipped with iron sights and a length of pull measuring 12.5 in.
