The barrel is optimized for field use with a recessed crown and is retained by two quick-change clamping screws, allowing barrel swaps within the R8 platform. Saddle-mount recesses and a barrel-mounted Saddle Mount interface are machined into the barrel. Sighting is straightforward and rugged, with a ramped white bead front and an open rear sight on a raised base.
Controls and safety are purpose-built, including a manual cocking/decocking tang slider. The detachable trigger group/magazine assembly is a hallmark of the R8 system and simplifies loading, unloading, and storage.
