The M1A Scout Squad configuration brings a compact 18-inch barrel with a forward barrel-mounted Picatinny rail and a perforated muzzle brake. The rifle retains the classic M14/M1A layout with a steel receiver in a matte finish, chambered in 7.62mm NATO (7.62x51). The receiver heel is marked "US RIFLE M1A SPRINGFIELD ARMORY," and the rifle was made in the USA.
The installed Archangel AACQS stock adds modern adjustability. It is a black polymer, pistol-grip design with a 6-position collapsible buttstock, an adjustable cheekpiece, and an adjustable length of pull from 11 to 14.5 inches. The stock is molded with "ARCHANGEL" and "ARCHANGEL USA" markings.
Sighting is via GI-style iron sights: a protected front post on the gas lock and an M14/M1A adjustable rear aperture with windage and elevation drums. The rifle uses a gas-operated, short-stroke piston system with a right-side operating rod, and it includes a solid polymer upper handguard.
This rifle uses the M14-pattern detachable box magazine system and comes with three 20-round steel magazines and one 10-round steel magazine. The original Springfield Armory case is included; its zipper is broken.
