Built on the AR-10 platform, the 716i TREAD uses a semi-automatic, direct-impingement system and forged aluminum receivers with a hardcoat anodized finish. The upper receiver is slick-side without a forward assist, and it includes a brass deflector and an ejection-port cover. Selector pictograms for SAFE/SEMI are present on both sides, complementing the ambidextrous safety.
The 16 in carbon steel barrel is nitride-treated and threaded 5/8x24 TPI, topped with a 3-prong flash hider. It is marked 7.62 NATO, features a 1:10 RH twist with 6-groove rifling, and supports a 20+1 capacity using SR-25 pattern magazines. The included magazine is a Magpul PMAG GEN M3 windowed model tailored for 7.62x51.
A free-float aluminum handguard provides M-LOK slots at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock and a continuous 12 o'clock Picatinny rail with integral QD sling sockets. The rifle is shipped without sights, allowing the user to configure sighting solutions as desired.
Ergonomics and controls include the two-stage Matchlite Duo trigger, a standard charging handle, a SIG-branded polymer grip, and a Magpul MOE SL-K 6-position adjustable stock. The model was introduced in 2020 as a direct-impingement evolution in the TREAD line and is made in the USA.
