The SW99 reflects a collaborative build: the frame is German-made by Walther, while the slide and stainless barrel were produced in the USA by Smith & Wesson. The frame is marked "FRAME MADE IN GERMANY" with the Walther banner on the dust cover, underscoring its joint manufacture heritage from the late 1990s–mid 2000s.
Its striker-fired DA/SA Anti-Stress trigger system provides a traditional double-action first shot with single-action follow-ups, complemented by a slide-top decocking button. A red striker status indicator, a loaded chamber indicator, and a firing pin safety round out the key safety and status features. The design uses a locked-breech action.
Ergonomics and controls include an ambidextrous paddle-style magazine release and an interchangeable backstrap system, with textured frontstrap and backstrap for consistent grip. An accessory rail is molded into the dust cover for mounting compatible lights or similar equipment.
The Melonite-finished slide has front and rear serrations for confident manipulation. The 4.25" stainless steel barrel offers dependable performance, while the full-size format balances sight radius and controllability.
Sight alignment is straightforward with 3-dot iron sights featuring a dot front and two-dot rear. Capacity is 10+1 using the included double-stack magazines with finger-rest floorplates.
