This 640-1 is part of the Magnum Centennial series and is built on S&W’s strengthened J-Magnum frame to handle .357 Magnum. It retains the pre-lock configuration with an internal (enclosed) hammer and double-action-only operation.
The 2.125 in barrel is specific to the 640-1 variant and uses a heavy profile with an underlug. The revolver is constructed from stainless steel throughout the frame, barrel, and cylinder, finished in brushed/satin stainless.
Sighting is straightforward and durable: a fixed rear notch paired with a pinned serrated ramp front sight. The smooth trigger complements the DAO mechanism for consistent pull characteristics.
Factory-style Hogue Monogrip rubber stocks with finger grooves are installed, providing a secure, hand-filling hold. This revolver was made in the United States.
