This example is configured with a 30-inch plain (non–vent-rib) steel barrel and a fixed FULL choke. A single front bead provides a simple sight picture, complemented by a matted sighting plane on the receiver.
The shotgun is chambered for 2 3/4-inch shells. The receiver is steel, and the stock is wood with a straight-comb, uncheckered profile and a Remington-branded buttplate. Length of pull measures 13.75 inches.
As part of the Automaster series, approximately 63,500 Model 878 shotguns were produced between 1959 and 1963. Notable details on this barrel include the roll-marked patent numbers 2,645,873 and 2,675,638, underscoring the design lineage of the action.
