The rifle is built on Remington’s large military-pattern No. 1 rolling-block action with an external hammer. The receiver exhibits the characteristic two large side screws and pins, and the system is configured for a capacity of one round.
It wears a 35-inch barrel with barrel-mounted open sights, including a ladder rear sight and a fixed blade front sight. This long-barreled configuration reflects the military pattern typical of No. 1 rifles.
The furniture includes a straight-grip walnut buttstock with a curved iron buttplate and a full-length walnut fore-end with band-spring mortises. The fore-end is currently fitted but not securely retained due to the missing mid and rear barrel bands; the nose/muzzle band remains present. An inletted base for a rear sling swivel is present; the swivel hardware is absent. A full-length cleaning rod is fitted under the barrel.
